À l’hiver 2020, je me suis lancé un défi: réaliser mon premier documentaire sur la danse! J’ai ainsi travaillé à la réalisation d’une courte entrevue de quelques minutes, intitulée: Pointes de ballet!

Avec l’aide de Rosalie Caron, j’ai ainsi pu filmer une entrevue à Montréal sur le monde fascinant de la danse classique, pour décrire comment les ballerines préparent leurs pointes avant de les utiliser.

Nous avons tourné dans un studio de danse de Montréal, et en avons profité pour faire quelques photos à la fin de l’entrevue.

Ce n’est pas ma première vidéo, puisque j’avais déjà réalisé une entrevue du photographe Frédéric Séguin, il y a quelques années. Mais, c’est la première fois que je tourne un documentaire sur le thème de la danse.

Pour réaliser cette entrevue, j’ai commencé par me renseigner auprès de certaines amies danseuses à Montréal, notamment à l’École Supérieur de Ballet du Québec. J’ai récupéré le plus d’informations possible, afin de poser des questions qui seraient intéressantes. Ce n’est pas évident quand on n’a jamais été danseur soi même!

J’ai aussi cherché beaucoup d’information sur le positionnement des caméras et sur l’enregistrement du son. Il fallait que tout fonctionne bien le jour J, en étant autonome sur l’ensemble de la production. Pas le droit à l’erreur au moment de faire l’entrevue!

Je voulais filmer quelques pas de danse en action, en ayant les mouvements les moins saccadés possible. Après quelques recherches, j’ai loué un stabilisateur DJI Ronin S, et fait quelques essais la veille du tournage. J’ai adoré les possibilités de stabilisation et la qualité obtenue sans ajustement. Cependant, c’est un outil très sensible et qui nécessite une bonne connaissance pour stabiliser correctement ses plans.

À refaire, je ne suis pas sûr que c’est l’outil que j’emprunterai de nouveau, car il faudrait prendre beaucoup de temps avant d’obtenir des plans vraiment fluides.

J’ai enregistré l’entrevue avec deux caméras, afin de donner plus de dynamisme au dialogue, et j’ai placé un micro lavalier (aussi connu sous le nom de micro-cravate) clippé sur le bodysuit de Rosalie afin d’obtenir une bonne qualité de son.

En plein hiver, il n’est pas possible de faire des photos dans les rues de Montréal (enfin, sans geler sur place au bout de 5 minutes). C’était donc une belle occasion pour faire quelques photos dans ce beau studio empli de lumière naturelle.

J’ai pu capturer les mouvements élégants de Rosalie à la barre et au sol. La lumière extérieure m’a servi de source d’éclairage tout au long du photoshoot et changeait souvent de qualité. On oscillait entre une lumière douce et tamisée à une lumière très dure avec un soleil intense.

Un énorme merci à Rosalie qui s’est montrée très patiente tout au long du tournage. C’était notre première collaboration ensemble et elle a fait preuve d’un grand professionnalisme. J’espère que nous aurons d’autres occasions de travailler de nouveau sur des projets de danse.
