Début novembre, l’opéra de Montréal présentait le vaisseau fantôme (Der Fliegende Holländer) de Wagner. Je n’ai jamais assisté à un opéra de ma vie, je n’ai jamais eu l’occasion en fait. Quelques jours avant la représentation, j’ai eu la chance de prendre quelques images à une répétition du deuxième acte de cet opéra, dans les sous-sols de la place des arts à Montréal.
Je m’attendais à voir une répétition générale avec les décors, les jeux de lumière… car je venais en tant que photographe. Mais à ma grande surprise, il s’agissait d’une séance très intime, où la proximité avec les chanteurs était de mise!
Pas de lumière, ni de costume, mais un aperçu du « derrière de la scène », où la metteuse en scène était en train de faire répéter ses chanteurs. L’audience était très restreinte, au maximum une quinzaine de personnes, ce qui m’a permis de me déplacer pour changer d’angle de prise de vues sans trop déranger.
Ce premier contact avec le monde de l’opéra fut des plus saisissants. Tout d’abord parce qu’à chaque fois que j’obtiens une passe photographe pour une représentation d’un spectacle ou d’un concert, je me sens à la fois touché et gêné, car ce n’est pas du tout mon milieu de prédilection.
Ensuite parce que je m’attendais à un spectacle complet et je me retrouve à 3 m d’un colosse (Endrick Wottrich) qui joue le personnage de Erik et chante merveilleusement bien!

Mes photos sont loin d’être exceptionnelles et de mettre en valeur la grandeur du spectacle qui a été donné la semaine suivante. Mais elles vous donneront un aperçu de ce qu’il se passe derrière et se veulent donc plus informatives qu’artistiques.
Pour parler rapidement de cet opéra, il s’agit d’un opéra romantique en 3 actes, qui fut créé en 1843. Bien évidemment il est chanté en allemand, et dure environ 2h35. Parmi les acteurs on retrouve 4 interprètes allemands: dans le rôle du Hollandais, le baryton basse Thomas Gazheli, dans celui de Daland, la basse Reinhard Hagen.
Sa fille Senta est interprétée par la soprano Maida Hundeling, le ténor Endrick Wottrich incarnant son fiancé Erik.
